Juergen PrestinProf. Dr. rer. nat.https://www.math.uni-luebeck.de/prestin/Juergen Prestin is an internationally recognized expert in the field of approximation theory. His main areas of research are Fourier analysis, fast algorithms, wavelets, orthogonal polynomials, applications of approximation theory in life sciences, etc. He is an active popularizer of mathematics among young people. For many years, J. Prestin prepared the German team for its participation in the International School Mathematical. He is actively working on the training of scientific personnel. In particular, under his supervision, 15 doctoral dissertations have been prepared and successfully defended. For more than 12 years, he has been a coordinator and active participant in joint research projects involving scientists from both the Institute of Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and other scientific institutions of Ukraine. He is the author of more than 115 scientific articles in leading scientific journals, including more than 20 in active collaboration with the staff of the Institute of Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. |

Rostyslav GrigorchukProfessor, Doctor of sciences in Physics and Mathematicshttps://people.tamu.edu/~grigorch/Rostyslav Grigorchuk (Hryhorchuk) is a world-famous specialist in many branches of mathematics including Algebra, Analysis, Dynamical Systems, and Computer Science. His main works are related to group theory and its applications. In 1984, he constructed the first example of a finitely generated group whose order of growth is intermediate between polynomial and exponential. Grigorchuk R. also obtained many other outstanding results for which he received high awards and world recognition. In particular, he solved a number of problems in asymptotic and geometric group theory, and also constructed a counterexample to M. Atyah’s conjecture on the L2 Betti number of closed manifolds. Grigorchuk R. has more than 20 defended candidates of sciences and doctors of philosophy (PhD) both in Ukraine and abroad. He is the founder of the journal Groups, Geometry, and Dynamics, and was and is a member of Editorial boards of many highly rated mathematical journals, both foreign and Ukrainian. Grigorchuk R. regularly participates in conferences and summer schools held in Ukraine, in particular by the Institute of Mathematics and the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. He is also the founder and co-chair of the competition for young mathematicians in Ukraine, which has been held since 2008 by the Kyiv Mathematical Society and the Shevchenko Scientific Society of America. |
