INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

1. General Information

1.1 Introduction

Institute of   Mathematics of   the National Academy of  Sciences of   Ukraine (NASU),  Ministry of Science and Education of Ukraine,  National Technical  University of  Ukraine "KPI",  Taras  Shevchenko  Kyiv  National University,  Mykhailo Dragomanov National Pedagogical University,  Vinnytsya National Technical University, Ukrainian Mathematical Society would  like to announce the Bunyakovsky International Conference  (Kyiv, August 16 -- 21, 2004). The Conference will be held in Kyiv at the Institute of  Mathematics.
The Conference will be organized to honour of the eminent mathematician of the XIX century Viktor Yakovych Bunyakovsky (1804-1889), one of the founders of  the St-Petersburg  scientific school of the number theory, Vice-President of the St-Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1864 -- 1889). The Ukrainian scientific community  will commemorate the bicentenary of  the researcher because V.Ya. Bunyakovsky was born in the city of Bar in the Vinnytsya region of Ukraine. The scope of the conference will include the range of the problems Bunyakovsky was interested in:
  1. mathematical analysis;
  2. number theory;
  3. theory of probability and its applications; actuarial mathematics;
  4. mathematics education and mathematical terminology.

 1.4 Travel and Accommodation

 August 16 is the arrival day. Participants should make their own travel arrangements to Kyiv. Hotel accommodation will be arranged on request.

 2. Scientific Program

 The scientific program will include plenary and short lectures. Plenary lectures (40 minutes) will be given in the morning session. Short lectures of   20-30 minutes will be held in parallel sessions in the afternoon. Overhead projection facilities will be available.

 Abstracts should be submitted in English  until April, 15, 2004. Abstracts will be distributed at the beginning of the Conference.

 3. Social Events

 In the evening of the arrival day, Monday, August 16, an informal welcome meeting will take place. In the afternoon of Thursday, August 19, the conference excursion to the historical monuments of Kyiv will be organized, and the same day in the evening the conference banquet will be held.

 4. After-Conference Excursion

 From August 20 to 21, conference participants will have the opportunity to take part in a two days' after-conference excursion to Bar, the native place of Viktor Bunyakovsky, and to Vinnytsya, staying the night in the City Hotel in Vinnytsya.
