National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University, and Ukrainian Mathematical Society are organizing a mathematical congress. The congress will be held in Kyiv from August 21 to August 23, 2001.
The Congress will be held in honour of the famous Ukrainian mathematician M. V. Ostrogradsky to mark his 200th anniversary of birthday.
As is known, Ostrogradsky's investigations
played a decisive role in developing a number of branches of
mathematics and mechanics, and determined the ways of their
development during two las centuries. His creation did not lose its
importance up to the present. M. V. Ostrogradsky was gauged
high by the world mathematical community. He was a member of Academy
of Sciences of St.-Petersbourg, Turin, Roma, USA. He is also among the
``immortal'' members of the Parisian Academy of Sciences.
