6th Crimean School and Workshops

Nonlinear Dynamics, Chaos, and Applications

15-26 May, 2006
Yalta, Crimea, Ukraine
Goals and Scope

During the last several decades non-linear dynamics and chaos theory belong to the most popular and perspective areas of scientific knowledge. The investigations, which often have interdisciplinary character, concern various types of bifurcations, chaotic processes, synchronization and desynchronization in smooth and discrete chaotic dynamical systems. More and more applications are found in very different fields: physics, engineering, laser theory, nanotechnologies, biology, medicine, economics. In neurophysiology, e. g., there is a challenging practical demand in analysing irregular non-linear processes for efficient control of brain dynamics with electrical stimulation, for the therapy of numerous diseases like Parkinson's disease or epilepsy.

The aim of this school is to bring together leading specialists from physics and mathematics, neuroscience, theoretical biology, engineering, working in the area of complex irregular dynamics, in order to discuss and exchange methods and tools for the analysis of such systems, and to illuminate novel interdisciplinary approaches at the border of theoretical and practical glance of science. Young attendies and other participants will hear lectures by the leading scientists on different aspects of non-linear dynamical systems and applications, together with the possibility of further discussions.

In a framework of the meeting, two Workshops will be arranged:

  • Stochastic and Chaotic Dynamics in Action: from Laser to Brain, from Communication to Medicine (May 15-19, 2006)
organized by Yu. Maistrenko, A. Pikovsky and P. Tass
  • Nonlinear Dynamics in Engineering and Nanotechnologies (May 22-26, 2006)
organized by A. Dmitriev, M. Hasler and A. Shpak

The themes of the meeting include, but are not limited to:

  • dynamics of complex networks from mathematical and physical viewpoints
  • brain dynamics and neurophysiology
  • communication and information technologies
  • nanotechnologies
  • non-linear processes in lasers
  • biological simulation

The meeting will consist of one-hour invited talks, short contributions of participants and, of course, a lot of time for informal discussion.

The conference will be held at the Hotel Mellas, Yalta region, Crimea, Ukraine, which hosted NATO ASI "Synchronization: Theory and Applications" in the year 2002.

Local costs in the hotel (board and lodging) are approximately 30 EUR/day for a single room with a shower on the floor, 50 EUR/day for a single comfortable room, and 80 EUR/day for a two-room lux.

Local organization, as before, will be held by the Institute of Mathematics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, which traditionally organizes Crimean schools on Dynamical Systems and Applications since long time ago.
